Having won numerous Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) awards, I had high hopes for this festive brew.
With a sweet, spicy aroma, it was very pleasant to the nose and when tasted gave something of a Christmas cake vibe, which was quite enjoyable.
Snow Top has a good base hop flavour, certainly not over-powering. It tastes pleasant and is thick, as a dark beer should be. However, it’s possibly a little too bitter. This is because winter beers do tend to be quite bitter sweet and I therefore felt, personally, that the balance was slightly off.
All in all, this is a fairly tasty brew, but it’s not the best winter ale I’ve ever tried.
