I always love an opportunity to pick up a bottle of Sam Smiths, I grew up a couple of miles away from the brewery, had my second ever job in a wonderful Sam Smiths pub and had my first legal pint in a Sam Smiths pub! (It was a pint of their organic cider, which is wonderful.)
I’ve had Organic Chocolate Stout a few times in my life and have normally thoroughly enjoyed it, however, today was a little different. It was very, very sweet, which in the past I either have enjoyed or it has been less sweet and they have changed the recipe or perhaps it was a bad batch? The strong notes of vanilla and roasted malty notes which I was expecting was replaced by almost a Dr Peppery type Cola taste which, although not unpleasant in the slightest was not was I constitute a really good chocolate stout.
I think the fairest thing to do is to buy again and update to see whether I just had a rouge bottle or if my tastes have changed in the last few years!
I’d pair this with my Spiced Chicken Kebabs, the powerful spicing of the kebabs will really draw out the chocolatey flavour of the chocolate stout!
